What is an end of line module?
An end of line is a module which completes the zone circuit within a fire alarm system, and fitted to constantly review each zone, looking for the presence of a fault. For example the removal of detector heads, open or short circuits and also for the failure of end of lines when the panel is in fire. End of line modules (EOLM for short) come with different resistance, however some of the most common are 1KΩ、2.2KΩ、4.7KΩ、5.6KΩ、6.8KΩ, however this is dependent and changes with each brand. The EOLM can be used on a conventional circuit, or an addressable sounder circuit
How an end of line module are used:
For an average alarm system, the alert device signals can be either open (NO) or closed (NC). The end of line module therefore completes the circuit, allowing for a regular current to pass through, allowing for the checking of the alarms state, and the prevention of failure in the presence of a fire. The EOLM will also reduce the current to a bare minimum, this aids in the panel not thinking its detecting fire, however at the same time it allows the panel to confirm that current is present through all wires
Below displays how the end of line modules fit within the circuit
